Hey, guys,
My name is Marek and I would like to welcome you to my blog.
I work as a physical therapist, but I’ve always had a passion for storytelling. I like twists and turns and books that force me to stay up late reading.
My first (adult) writing experience happened while I was working in an Austrian city called Innsbruck. I used to have a lot of free time and one day I started writing a novel. It was called “A Moment Before Dying,” and after creating an outline, I immediately knew that I was holding something special in my hands. I was also a gamer at the time, and a movie buff, which I still am, so I decided to put the book on ice for a few months and then come back to it, multiple times. Coming back was never easy – which is why I took many writing breaks – the longest one lasted three whole years…
I eventually gave up only to get back into writing several years later. My holiday in Italy was the turning point. I was lying on the beach, bored, so I picked up a pen and paper. The result was a short story called “Wake Up.” This creative experience sparked something in me. That’s when I knew I wanted to continue writing.
I came back home and wrote another short story, entitled “Nice People.” I got some positive feedback from my friends and acquaintances, which gave me confidence to test the waters of self-publishing. I published a few short stories, most of which were horrors and thrillers. I purposely made them all take place in a fictional town, Portville. Once I had enough of them, I compiled them into an anthology, which became my debut called “Tales From Portville.”
I was still learning. Learning how to write, which software to use for everything, learning how to self publish. By then I knew it was completely possible to be a self-published author, so I set myself a new goal – to finish “The Moment Before Dying.” – The novel that I’d started to write eight years ago. If there was one book that would show the world who I am, it was that one.
It took almost a year, but I finally made it. “The Moment Before Dying” comes out August 22 and I’ve successfully achieved one of my many goals.
Right now I’m trying to make a name for myself as a writer and I want to share my experiences with all of you. This blog will not be only about my journey, I will also talk about all the good and bad stuff I’ve encountered during it. I will talk about my writing process, the software I use and would recommend, the editors I like… everything that can help aspiring writers achieve their goals.
I’m not going to pretend I’m some big writer. I like to keep things simple. Low key. Feel free to follow this blog to find some useful tips, and if you decide to give my books a shot, I will appreciate it very much.
Marek
